Andy Darby

Prior to pursuing graduate study, Andy was Artistic Director at Lancaster’s long-running literary festival, litfest from 1996 to 2013, delivering projects in a wide range of settings. During that time he was a member of the design team of the PROUD Beyond the Castle project (2012), he also chaired the National Association for Literature Development (2006-09), the publishers’ consortium Literature NorthWest (2007-11) and the countywide steering group for the Lancashire Witches 400th anniversary (2011-12). Prior to his career in the literature sector he worked as a professional actor after reading Drama at Bretton Hall College, Leeds University.

Currently, he sits on the Authors and the World steering group, an AHRC-funded collaboration between researchers in the departments of European Languages & Culture, English & Creative Writing, Linguistics, and History at Lancaster University.

Andy's research focus is design fiction and participatory design practice. Recent projects include Active Parks and ProtoPolicy.
