Paul Coulton, The Borough, 22 October 2015
Paul will be considering the potentially ethical dilemmas academic research raises for designers and ask the question is it really about the future at all?
For many design is always about the future and whilst there is obvious validity in that argument in this talk I will to focus design techniques that are concerned specifically with the construction of the communicative around potential futures. In particular those techniques that want to create a discourse on the societal implications of our current technologically driven trajectories by asking the question what if? Rather than focus on the validity of such techniques as academic research I wish to consider the potentially ethical dilemmas they raise for designers and ask the question are they really about the future at all?
