HighWire Coffee Club; Alternative Papers

HighWire Coffee Club on Thursday 15th October 2015 discussed Alternative Papers.

Examples of alternative writing and alternative format styles for academic papers were discussed, including Vanessa Thomas' and Manu Bruggemann's "I am more than the sum of my parts: an e-waste design fiction" paper and Stephen Forshaw's thesis alternative format.

Joe couldn't make it but he sent some relevant to the topic info which is included below:

Two things that might be of interest: "alternative writing" ... this is my friend Debbie's PhD thesis, it is written and formatted as if it was a novel: http://discovery.dundee.ac.uk/portal/files/1306782/Maxwell_phd_2010.pdf

Secondly, Game of Drones, the paper I wrote recently with Paul... it is entirely fictional apart from the final paragraph. This poses interesting dilemmas for, for instance, peer reviewers: http://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=2810300

More Coffee Clubs are on their way for November. If you have an idea for a Coffee Club session please get in touch, format and subject can be anything!
