We have a number of paid placement opportunities available each summer in HighWire. The intention of these placements is to provide an insight into research related to the digital economy and as a taster of this style of cross-disciplinary working. You will work directly with HighWire students and their ongoing research projects.
The placements are particularly suited to people interested in entering a research career and/ or considering doing a PhD. The duration of the placements is negotiable but they typically start in July and run to mid September (we can work around planned holidays).
We are looking for people with a strong academic record and also good practical skills to engage in projects. The positions are most suitable for students in their second year onwards but we will also consider exceptional students from the first year of their course.
If you are interested, please contact Professor Gordon Blair (Director of HighWire).
As an example, James Hadley worked for HighWire on LifeMirror, a crowd sourced video platform:
"My placement at HighWire was a fantastic use of my summer vacation. I worked on a crowd sourced video website, which is a new concept that has since got funding and may well take off in a big way. The work helped to enhance skills I already had and also develop new skills, and has helped me in significantly finding work after the placement. I made friends at HighWire who I still see and learn a lot from on a regular basis."
